The Good-year Pimp

Plenty of gay cuties have been packing into McGovern's latest nightclub party, Magnum, every Sunday at Chelsea's swanky eatery the Park. The party marks McGovern and co-promoter Dean Johnson's return to the scene after their depraved Thursday-night soiree XXX at the Hole was closed earlier this year when it became too popular for its own good—the Hole's modestly sized space was so cramped, there was barely room to breathe, let alone carouse. The duo is still intent on restoring gay nightlife to its storied pre-Giuliani decadence, and so far, crowds of fetching gay boys have been mingling harmoniously throughout the Park's cavernous interior. It's an unpretentious atmosphere, featuring a kick-ass mix of music, from Lil' Kim to Courtney Love, and a no-attitude policy. "Niceness is the new glamour," declares McGovern. "Shadiness is over."

In addition to Magnum and his P.S. 122 production, McGovern is putting the finishing touches on a CD of his music. He's also relaunching GayPimp.com, which will soon offer downloadable music and video, as well as a variety of merchandise.

At the moment, McGovern seems quite content wearing his numerous hats and juggling the various aspects of his career (he does have youth on his side, after all). Where does he see himself a year from now? "With a Gay Pimp record out, with tons of cute gay teen fans," he says. "Oh, and my own show on the [planned] Gay Cable Network. If the Gay Pimp can't have a show on the gay channel, there's something wrong with this world."
